Steve Cohen’s Toccata Veronese (2016) was commissioned by and is dedicated to pianist and musicologist Sylvia Kahan.

As a playful tribute to his friend, Steve Cohen built the piece around motifs from Franz Schubert’s An Sylvia (D. 891; Op. 106, No. 4), a setting of a lyric from Shakespeare’s The Two Gentlemen of Verona.
